Galveston office desks and homes sales  has gone up  than those in all other Texas markets during the fourth quarter last year. In the mainland cities , the home sales remained sluggish  as the people in Texas chose to buoy fewer homes according to the quarterly housing report by the Texas Association of Realtors.

The Island Realtors credited growing consumer confidence, easy prices and the return of jobs at the University of Texas Medical Branch, which had laid off thousands after Hurricane Ike struck in September 2008 as some of the reasons for this big leap in home sales. In Galveston, the median home price increased 31 percent in the fourth quarter last year — to $172,000 from $131,000 a year ago, according to the report.
